Admissions and Occupancy
The Athens Housing Authority meets the needs of individuals and families searching for affordable rental opportunities. However, it is important to note that we are unable to provide emergency assistance housing.
We accept applications for housing year round; however, we do have a waiting list. Our waiting list will only be closed in accordance with Athens Housing Authority policies and procedures, which allow for public notification.
Applications for housing are available through our Admissions and Occupancy Office located at 300 S. Rocksprings St. You may visit our office at 300 S. Rocksprings St. to pick up an application; or, call (706) 425-5300 to have an application mailed to you; or, read below about how to download an application. How to Apply for a Housing Unit
There are a few steps to help us serve you as you prepare to complete your application with the Athens Housing Authority. Please read the following information carefully:

Please print the application, complete and bring to the Athens Housing Authority on any Thursday between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. We regret that applications currently cannot be completed online nor can they be mailed into the office. You may obtain a copy of the Eligibility Application at our office at 300 S. Rocksprings St.
- To verify your eligibility for housing you must bring the following additional information with you when you turn in your Eligibility Application:
- Income verification such as pay stubs, bank statements, Social Security, SSI, VA, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), or child support statements.
- Certified birth certificates and Social Security cards for all family members aged six and older.
- Information regarding marital status such as marriage license, divorce, or separation papers.
- Evidence of citizenship status for each family member.
Prohibitions for Housing Assistance
Federal requirements prohibit Housing Authorities from providing assistance to the following individuals:
- Persons who are registered on any state sexual predator list.
- Persons who have been convicted for the manufacture or sale or methamphetamines.
