Neighborhood Guide
PK Extension Over the years, the Athens Housing Authority has enabled many families to set personal and financial goals. As one of the largest providers of rental housing in Athens-Clarke County, the Athens Housing Authority offers families a variety of programs that foster community involvement, academic learning, and job skills readiness in an encouraging environment.

Westside Neighborhoods

The Athens Transit bus line services all neighborhoods on the Westside. In most instances, the bus stop is directly outside the neighborhood entrance.

School bus transportation is provided to all Clarke County elementary schools located on the Westside. Transportation to Clarke Middle School is also provided to all neighborhoods except Rocksprings, which is within walking distance. Parkview Homes, Parkview Extension, Broadacres, and Rocksprings Homes are within walking distance of Clarke Central High School.

Denney Tower
In the middle of downtown, this senior citizen high rise is located at Dougherty and Pulaski streets. Central air conditioning, laundry rooms located on each floor, building security system, and planned activities are all part of the advantages to residing at Denny Tower.

Parkview Homes
Located near the University of Georgia and downtown employers, there are a number of activities for children and families. The Parkview Play School is located in neighborhood. Playground areas for children and a basketball court for youth are in the center of the neighborhood. Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services provides summer day camp program and after school activities.

Broadacres
Within walking distance of downtown, this neighborhood is convenient to the University of Georgia. Each housing unit has central air conditioning. A daycare center and a playground area are located in the neighborhood. The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services provides a summer day camp program and afterschool activities.

Parkview Extension
After undergoing extensive renovations, these apartments feature carpeting, central air conditioning, washer and dryer hookups, and dishwashers. A large playground area is available for children. An added plus is the neighborhood's proximity to downtown services and the University of Georgia.

Rocksprings

This popular neighborhood is located near shopping and services along the newly revitalized Baxter Street corridor and across the street from Clarke Central High School. In addition, it is within walking distance of Athens-Clarke County Library, Clarke Middle School and Alps Road School. A daycare center is located within the community. This neighborhood features central air conditioning for each housing unit. A large community center building is located in the middle of the neighborhood. The Athens Tutorial Program runs an after-school tutoring program in the center. Nearby, the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services runs senior citizen programs and after school activities at the Rocksprings Recreation Center in a park just outside the neighborhood. The Leisure Services Department also staffs a neighborhood pool in the park.

Jack R. Wells
Youth have numerous recreational activities to choose after school and during the summer at the Boys and Girls Club located in the neighborhood Community Center. Ball fields and basketball courts are available for youth. Exterior painting was completed in 2004.

Hill and Chase
This group of single-family attached homes is located in a historic, established neighborhood half way between downtown and Athens Regional Medical Center. Exterior modernization projects were completed at this community in 2004. The neighborhood is near Chase Street Elementary School.

College and Hoyt
Walk to downtown services and shopping, Thomas Lay Park and pool, the Lyndon House Art Center and the Council on Aging from this neighborhood. Exterior updates were completed in 2004 at this in-town neighborhood.

Eastside Neighborhoods

The Athens Transit bus line services all neighborhoods on the Eastside. Bus stops are usually right outside the neighborhood entrance or within the neighborhood. School bus transportation is provided to all Clarke County elementary schools located on the Eastside. Transportation to Hillsman Middle School and Cedar Shoals High School is also provided to all neighborhoods. In addition, Athens Technical College is located within 5 miles of most eastside neighborhoods.

Nellie B

Exterior building modernization was completed in 2003. New landscaping plans, including tree planting and green space, will be implemented during 2005. Playground areas for children and basketball courts for youth are also located with this neighborhood. This neighborhood is within walking distance of the East Athens Community Center, Neighborhood Health Center, Athens-Clarke County Health Department, and Triangle Park. The East Athens Community Center runs football, basketball and cheerleading teams and provides numerous recreational activities including swimming.

Bonnie Lane
Located near the North Ave. corridor, this neighborhood has easy access to downtown, shopping, and local employers.

Towne View
Nestled in established neighborhood, this area is convenient to the University of Georgia and the Boys and Girls Club along Oak Street.

Vine Circle
This neighborhood is a designated elderly area. Apartments all have private entrances and yards.

Scattered Sites

Scattered sites are duplex style homes located throughout the community. They are nearby, but not connected to, other AHA neighborhoods.
