Survey questions are to help guide decisions about the improved delivery of services for the community. The first phase of the survey was conducted in the fall of 2016. From that first survey, programs have already been developed. For instance, many individuals and families experienced areas of food insecurity. These are areas of the community in which families lack access to food stores as they live a distance from full-service grocery stores. The Athens Land Trust and St. Mary’s Healthcare created the Mobile Food Pantry as a way to bring fresh foods to neighborhoods and provide recipes, food tastings and nutrition facts. Medical residents from St. Mary’s discuss healthcare issues during these meetings. Other survey questions helped guide CCSD with developing programs for parents and youth on success in school. In addition, Envision Athens is also reviewing data in order to develop community priorities.
The first survey and the newest one will assist in defining community needs in the areas of health, housing, education, community safety and civic vitality. The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and is very important in order for citizens to provide feedback about important community issues. We encourage AHA families to access the survey by going to www.athenswelbeingproject.org and taking the survey online or by answering a knock at your door and taking the time to answer the surveyor’s questions. This is a great opportunity for AHA residents to be heard and to help develop ideas about the future of the Athens Community.
