St. Mary’s Health Care Systems and the American Lung Association are sponsoring a Freedom from Smoking Class for Athens Housing residents.  The class will be held on Tuesdays, March 5, 12, 19, and 26, and Thursday March, 28 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Denney Tower, 250 W. Dougherty St.  There is no charge for the class for AHA residents.  The class is led by an ex-smoker who is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and an ALA- certified instructor.  To sign up, call 706-425-5365. 

As AHA residents know, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development now requires that all public housing properties are smoke free.  The AHA implemented this policy in July 2018.  Because it is difficult to stop a long-term habitat, the AHA partnered with St. Mary’s Healthcare to assist residents become smoke free.
